D.Lit Wins an Award in July, Hangs Out with Grandparents

August 3, 2026

We’re thrilled SpudnikLab received recognition by Singapore’s information and communications government agency, the Infocom Media Development Authority (IMDA) for our work in expanding digital literacy through our D.Lit toolkit. SpudnikLab received the shiny Catalyst award on 17 July 2026 at the IMDA Digital for Life Partners’ Appreciation event at the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach,  and was represented by our very own SpudnikLab co-founder, Saad Chinoy.

A Saturday D.Lit session at The Foundry

A few days later, on Saturday, 25th July, eight participants came together at do-good social impact hub The Foundry, for a D.Lit session. With the help of our D.Lit facilitators from our Potato Productions sibling company, River Valley Irregulars, participants learned how to navigate Google maps, manage phone storage space, recognise scam calls and experiment with Meta AI on their WhatsApp chats.

A D.Lit first—a ‘game show’ format on World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

SpudnikLab went on a new adventure to the Catholic Church of Saint Anthony in Woodlands the next day, on Sunday 26th July, to be part of their activities for World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July and established by Pope Francis in 2021, this is a day for the global Catholic church to honour older adults and combat the loneliness and isolation often experienced by the elderly. The special day highlights

the vital role seniors play in passing down spiritual faith and wisdom to younger generations.

This D.Lit event was our largest-ever turnout—over 70 participants. To cater to this very different scenario from our usual closely-facilitated format, we conceptualised a ‘game show’ style session that emphasised peer learning.

D.Lit at World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly at the Church of St Anthony on 26th July 2026 had participants using their phones to complete tasks together—adjusting display settings, downloading apps over wifi—with supermarket vouchers going to the fastest finishers. Photo: Melissa De Silva

First, participants used their own phones to complete tasks together—from adjusting display settings to downloading apps over wifi—with supermarket vouchers going to the fastest finishers. Next came the quick-fire “Is it a Scam?” round, where participants judged whether real-life scenarios were scams or legitimate, explaining their reasoning to win prizes.

We ended the session by inviting participants to the table we’d set up at the back of the church hall, where our D.Lit toolkit was on display, for them to browse and chat with facilitators if they had more questions.

In all, it was an eventful and very fulfilling July, and we can’t wait to take D.Lit on its next adventures in expanding digital literacy and digital confidence among seniors and people of all ages.
